Car Seat Installation Checks
Seventy- three percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly. Avondale Fire & Medical has certified car passenger safety technicians who can help you learn to install your car seat properly. Child safety seats can be inspected for free by appointment. Avondale Fire & Medical periodically receives car seats and booster seats for free distribution. Keeping your child properly secured in a car seat isn't just the prudent, safest thing to do for your child while driving in the car, it's also the law.  Remember, if you have recently been in an accident, you may have to replace your child's car seat even if there appears to be no damage. Please, keep you and your family buckled up when in the vehicle.  Please call 623-333-6112 to schedule an appointment or fill out the Child Seat Inspection request form.

Smoke Alarm Installation and Checks
Every Avondale Fire & Medical engine company carries a kit with smoke alarms and batteries as well as information on the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in your home. As a courtesy, our members check the working order of smoke alarms in our customer's home and will replace batteries if needed. They also will install one smoke alarm  if none are present, all free of charge. A properly installed and working smoke alarm may be the best chance of survival for you and your family in the case of a house fire. Click Safety Tips for more information on smoke alarms.

Blood Pressure Checks
According to the American Heart Association, one in four adult Americans has high blood pressure.  Because there are no symptoms, one-third of these people don’t even know they have high blood pressure, also called hypertension.  The AHA states that people suffering from high blood pressure are:
  • Three times more likely to develop coronary heart disease
  • Six times more likely to develop congestive heart failure
  • Four times more likely to have a stroke

Avondale Fire & Medical offers free blood pressure checks at any Avondale fire station with no appointment necessary.  Please watch your blood pressure and see your doctor if it is high.
