Billy Moore Days 2016

Billy Moore Days is Back! Three Day event features Western-themed Parade, Carnival and Concerts

Celebrate Avondale’s 70th Birthday with the rebirth of Billy Moore Days!  When you ask most longtime Avondale residents about their memories growing up here, many of them will inevitably mention Billy Moore Days, a tradition named for Avondale’s founder, and celebrated for more than five decades in Avondale.

Billy Moore Days comes back to Historic Avondale October 21 – 23, with the return of  the event’s favorite elements including the Billy Moore Days Parade and Carnival. To mark the 70th anniversary of Avondale’s incorporation, the festival will showcase stage headliner acts: Halocene on Friday, October 21; and Str8Up, and The Sugar Thieves on Saturday, October 22. Saturday evening will also include fireworks.

Halocene is a national touring female-fronted, Phoenix-based pop and rock band who's opened for platinum selling artists Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy, the Vans Warped Tour, and more, without a label or management. They established in 2008, and since have release multiple records, and have become a YouTube sensation, worldwide.

Str8Up has been entertaining party-going, music-loving audiences all over the Valley and beyond for the past 25 years.  They come prepared to give their very best, covering every genre of music, and specializing in old school R&B and Latin favorites.

The Sugar Thieves have been winning fans over worldwide with their high energy, soulful live shows since 2006, performing blues, country, folk, gospel, rock and roll, and elements of jazz.  The Sugar Thieves call Phoenix home, but have made their presence known all over the US, Mexico, and Europe, sharing the stage with the likes of B.B. King, Willie Nelson, The Flaming Lips, The Blues Brothers, Lucinda Williams, Robert Cray, and more. They’ve recorded and produced five albums.

For those not familiar with the founder of Avondale for which the entire event is named, William “Billy” Moore came to Arizona in l867. He eventually made his way to the west banks of the Agua Fria River and established a stage coach station. He added a general store and became the postmaster of the settlement he named Coldwater, which eventually became Avondale in 1946. Billy Moore Days began as an opportunity for Avondale and surrounding communities to celebrate the area’s history, and it was a beloved hometown tradition that lasted 55 years.  During the downturn of the economy, the event took a hiatus in 2008. Avondale’s City Council, with community input, voted to revive the festival again this year, as part of Avondale’s slate of special events.  We invite all to come to enjoy the fun.
