Preplanning Maps on Mobile Computer TerminalsPreplanning is essential for rapid and effective hazard mitigation.  It involves identifying, inspecting, recording and distributing information on specific occupancies within the city.  This information may include layout, location and quantity of hazardous materials, construction, and fire suppression systems. Preplanning is used to help fire departments identify potentially hazardous occupancies in the community and create a plan of action for mitigating potential emergencies prior to them occurring. It is accomplished through the cooperation of Avondale Fire-Rescue Mapping Services, on duty personnel, the Fire Marshal, and the Training Officer.  AutoCad Map 2000, a sophisticated drafting software tool, is used to create and maintain maps of Avondale roadways, apartment complexes, schools, as well as the preplans.  These maps are shared with other departments as well as uploaded into Mobile Computer Terminals (MCTs), which are in every fire apparatus.  These maps and associated information can be accessed through GIS systems while companies are en route to emergencies.
