Paint Disposal
paint can graphics

Latex paint is easy to dispose of in your garbage following these simple steps:
  1. Add equal parts cat litter to latex paint in the can (one part paint to one part cat litter).  If you have more than a half can, you can always pour the paint into a lined cardboard box then pour in cat litter.
  2. Stir the cat litter into the pain until it has an oatmeal-like consistency that will not spill out.
  3. Allow the paint/cat litter mixture to sit and dry until no longer pourable.
  4. Throw the dried can of paint in the garbage.

Instead of cat littler, you can use commercial paint hardener, follow the instructions on the label.

For very small amounts, you can paint on cardboard or newspaper and discard newspaper/cardboard in the garbage when dry.

OIL-BASED paint IS hazardous and must be disposed of at a household hazardous waste disposal event.

NEVER pour paints down the sink or in the storm drain.
