Tale of Two Cities, in its fifth year, this international-themed, award winning event is a collaboration between the cities of Avondale, Goodyear and Estrella Mountain Community College, and attracts thousands all over the Valley. Over 8,000 enjoyed this multi-cultural festival complete with parade, festival and a naturalization ceremony. 

The parade, booths and activities promote a multi-cultural theme, with food, music and performances to complement the experience. Vendors and community groups offering a diverse assortment of products, including arts and crafts, as well as concessionaires that share authentic food and international cuisine from nations around the world! Festival admission is free and includes music and entertainment, a kids’ zone, vendor booths, cultural-related displays and more.

Similar to prior years, a parade will take place on Thomas Road, from Litchfield to Dysart Roads, beginning at 10 a.m. and following with the festival at Estrella Mountain Community College. Consider entering your float, specialty vehicle, horse entries, marching unit, motorcycle, marching band, etc. Families, local school groups, marching bands, civic and neighborhood organizations, dance troupes, and businesses are all welcome to participate in the parade and add to the pageantry of an event that helps to bring our community together to celebrate an array of cultures. Parade of Cultures – 10 a.m.

The parade will promote various cultures from around the globe, with music and performances from a variety of artists to complement the experience. With over 90 parade entries, the procession will also include decorated floats, marching bands from local schools, cultural dance groups, local celebrities and state political figures, celebrated mascots, foreign makes of antique and specialty vehicles, community and school clubs, scouts, and more.

A World of Performances

Stage entertainment will feature a series of performances representing many of the world’s cultures. Fans of dance will enjoy Native American, Mexican Folklorico, Polynesian, and even Middle Eastern dances among others. Numerous musical performers will also appear, performing a variety of world music styles. A total of 150 area residents, will take the Oath of Allegiance and become United States citizens during a naturalization ceremony on the main stage, at noon. The ceremony is coordinated by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). 

 A World of Cuisine

Bring a healthy appetite! Guests can taste delicious, authentic food from nations around the world including Greek, Mexican, Indonesian, Asian, Native American, Cambodian, Caribbean, Moroccan and Jamaican! 

Kid's Zone

Children will be able to take part in free activities.  This fun zone is complete with a English Castle bounce house, Swiss Alps Rock Wall, Big Kahuna Wave Slide, plenty of carnival games, face painting, and crafts for the kids to enjoy.

Exhibits/Booths

Multiple businesses, community organizations and sponsors will also have displays, as well as city services, to provide you with ample information about the communities of Avondale and Goodyear.  With a vast array of performing arts, family activities, ethnic cuisine, displays and crafts, there will be something for everyone to enjoy!

Parking will be available at St. Thomas Aquinas Church (enter from 137th Ave.), Palm Valley Elementary (enter from 135th Ave.) and Estrella Mountain Community College (enter from the North, off Dysart Rd).
