Leverton Property Environmental Investigation (ED6700 Phase I & II)
The Leverton property is a 13.7 acre rectangular-shaped parcel of predominately vacant land located at 905 North Avondale Boulevard. The property is bound on the north by Roosevelt Street and Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites with Interstate 10 further north, on the south by an agricultural parcel owned by Leverton Investments Limited Partnership, on the west by Avondale Boulevard followed by fallow and cultivated agricultural land, and to the east by the 111th Avenue alignment followed by an agricultural parcel owned by BCC Development Limited Partnership and Roosevelt Park Development L.L.C.
The Leverton Property project provides a Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) on parcel 102-57-006C. The funding mechanism is a Brownfield grant. The land is being investigated to provide partial half street improvements on south side of Roosevelt Street at the intersection of Avondale Boulevard. These improvements will accommodate the necessary intersection traffic movements.
Over the next several months the City of Avondale will be investigating, planning for clean up and cleaning up contamination at the site. This effort will be facilitated, in part, through the use of a Brownfield State-Wide Assessment Grant, awarded to the City of Avondale from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). The City of Avondale and ADEQ are interested in learning about the needs and priorities of the community in order to incorporate them into necessary clean up decisions that will ultimately affect the future use of the property. A Community Involvement Plan was prepared which outlined how the City of Avondale will involve community members in the investigation and cleanup of the Leverton Property.
